The Anchorage Inn/Charleston was a beautiful, well-staffed, well-run Inn. It's in a perfect location -- 1/2 block from the bay, in the heart of the historic French Quarter. We didn't have a rental car; didn't need it. Besides offering a continental breakfast, the afternoon wine w/ cheese & crackers, and evening sherry were special touches. We would definitely stay in the Anchorage Inn again, and recommend it to everyone.

Can't beat the location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was small, but roomy enough for two people. Our room originally wasn't as clean as we had wished, but the staff quickly corrected it and we would definitely stay here again. Complimentary wine and cheese at 4pm, sherry at 8 and chocolate turndown service - all things more expensive hotels do not offer. Only additional item that would have been helpful would have been a place to get pop and snacks onsite - there isn't a vending machine or restaurant and the closest place to get beverages for the room is 2 blocks away. Overall, we loved our stay!

We traveled to Charleston for a Valentines day getaway and chose the Anchorage Inn. We stayed in the Charleston Suite. Overall our stay was outstanding, with a few minor complaints that the would have made this a perfect place to stay. Don't let the "bad" discourage you, we would defiantly stay there again!

    The good:
    - The room was clean, comfortable and spacious
    - Location! Right off of Waterfront park and within walking distance to everything. We parked the car upon arrival, and didn't see it again until we left.
    - The only issue that we did have with the room (dead remote batteries) was fixed instantly with a smile by the staff.
    -

    The bad:
    - The inns web site list concierge service. Upon check in I sought the help of the staff in dinner recommendations and setting up a private carriage ride. I asked for a recommendation for a nice Italian place but the young lady had no knowledge of any Italian restaurants in the area. I then asked if she could help make a reservation for a private carriage tour, and was told that I would have to walk to market street, find a vendor and see if anyone would do a private tour. Within 15 minutes using the restaurant guide and phone book in the room, I was able to take care of dinner reservations and set up a private carriage tour for the next evening.

    - Other than the receptionist the staff was mostly invisible during our stay. This may be by design, and I must admit it did give the feeling of having our "own place", but it would have been nice to have folks around to help with questions, make recommendations, etc.

As a young chef I started my career in Charleston, and after a year of marriage my wife and I decided to take an extended vacation after another wedding we went to the prior three days in Pawleys Island. The entrance to the Inn is enticing, as you walk into a quaint lobby, you are greeted by a well mannered desk attendant, who sent us up to room ten, once inside the room I could barely move around, the size of the room was like a 8X10 that barely held the queen size poster bed it housed. The hotel boasted a continental breakfast, that in fact it had but no syrup for precooked french toast and waffles that were cold was much needed. The afternoon reception was held but we ventured out for activities. The evening nitecap of sherry was a great idea but no hostess or attendent was unappealling.Location of the Inn is a plus, you will be within walking distance to all of Historic Charleston. Area restaurants that I recommend include Cypress(Young Talented Chef), Magnolias(Charleston Staple), McCradys(Have a Chocolate Martini in the Wine Bar after Dinner), Tristan(offers a great Prix Fixe Lunch $15), Meritage(best Tapas and late nite in Charleston)
